7" - 2018 - F5 Records

Here is a re-issue on 7" of two tracks "L.I. Groove" and "A Lil Sumething" featuring Artifacts from the Long Island based group Hard 2 Obtain, originally dropped in 1993 and produced by SD50.

A - L.I. Groove
B - A Lil Sumething feat Artifacts

7" - 2018 - F5 Records

"Before linking up with the Alps Cru in the mid-90s Shorty Live (aka Brank Napp) had been recording demos with UNF, his crew in his native Brooklyn. On the Alps classic “Just Can’t Explain” Shorty name checks his hometown crew in the line, “Droppin’ science, headin’ into 5th gear with my alliance/The Dime Squad, Alps, UNF so save your breath.” F5 Records proudly presents a 7” of new material from UNF (Unity Never Fails). This double A-sided banger features "Corner House Politics" and "The Story of Willie Bosket" produced by DJ Crucial. Both tracks are top-notch true school hip-hop with countless quotable lines from these BK vets. DJs be sure to cop doubles. This is some serious heat." - F5 Records

A - Corner House Politics
B -  The Story of Willie Bosket

7" - 2018 - F5 Records

"Ray West and DJ Crucial collaborate on this limited 45 with O.C. of D.I.T.C and MC Eiht. Starting with the A Side, Ray West’s killer remix of “Life I Choose” by Mc Eiht and DJ Crucial’s short edit of the original track. The B Side has A Crucial Remix of “Legacy Flag” by O.C. from Ray West’s Luv NY Lp followed with the classic original version" - F5 Records

Various ‎- What's Really Going On ! Volume I - 1995

EP - 1995 - Homeless Records

"What's Really Going On ! Volume I" was a compilation of various artists from NYC released in 1995 on Homeless Records, a record label directed by Houston Bowen. The EP is composed of 6 tracks.
On the A-Side you can listen to "Where The Money At" performed and produced by Jesse West a.k.a 3rd Eye, the excellent "A&R Better Watch Out" with its little piano loop produced by E.Knight and performed by the group Dunja, the same group who was on the N.Y Confidential EP. The last one for this side is " Strictly Ghetto" performed by Rich Nice and produced by House who was the executive producer of the project.
On the other side, the first two songs are "Play By The Rules" performed by an MC named Ripper and "Times Are Trife" performed by the group NFL. Sorry I don't have any info about these cats. Both tracks were produced by Scratch God Ahmad from Brooklyn. The last one "Beats" is a track of the group A.S.A also know as Another Smooth Alliance, group composed of Dez Dottin and Ezra 'E.Z Ace' Nanton from the Bronx who were already known with the excellent 12" 'What U Mean 2 Me' released in 1992. "Beats" was produced by G-Dub.

Shadowz in Da Dark - Anthology

I think that Shadowz In Da Dark is one of the most mysterious NYC group from the 90s... Black Sun and Monochrome released plenty of good stuff during that era. Most of the tracks were produced by Nick Wiz, but only one physical 12" was released on a white label circa '97.

... unfortunately an album never came out. I'm certainly not the only one person who can't understand that and I still hope the official album could see the light of day soon !
I was in contact with Black Sun for a moment but I don't know why he doesn't answer anymore... at least I hope all is well for him. Here is a comp of their best tracks made of Vinyl and CD rips, Demos, Freestyle ...

1 - Beyond The Shadow Of A Doubt (WKCR Demo)
2- 11:45
3 - Curb High Remix
4 - Final Chapter
5 - Bright Lights
6 - Curb High

N.Y Confidential - N.Y Confidential EP - 1998

EP - 1998 - Guillotine Records

I remember buying this vinyl in '98, in a little record store from Paris called "Street Sound". Dark atmosphere, good lyrics and dope productions... It was the kind of indie record you put directly in your bag after the first listening, even if the artists were unknown !

N.Y Confidential is a comp of various Brooklyn based artists released in 1998 on Guillotine Records. It was fully produced by E.Knight (Heads to the Floor Productions), the former member of the group Camouflage Large. The EP is composed of 5 tracks with different MCs from the Breukelen Projects :
"Why" featuring Agony (The original "Why" before it was stolen by Jadakiss in 2004... for the story), "Rumors of War" featuring Dunja, a group composed of E.Knight, D.Als and A.Als, "Me & You" and "Backstabbed" featuring Rahlike The Body Snatcha, and the last one "Anger Consumes..." featuring E.Knight also known as Dunja Lord.

One Step Beyond - The Labyrinth - 1996

One Step Beyond was a hip-hop trio composed of Joe Summa, Val Black and Dee Cutz. Joe Summa and Dee Cutz were from the Bronx, Val Black was from Queens and they grew up together since they were 15. They put "The labyrinth" out their selves independently in 1996 on World Wide Entertainment.

12" - 1996 - World Wide Ent.

The 12" is composed of 5 tracks : "18 To Party" which is the lead single with its instrumental, "Women Who Sleep With Women", "World Wide" and the excellent "Dedicated" in its instrumental version. Many people contributed to the productions ... cats like Earl Blaze, Gold Finger, Val Black and Von Belgrave
The wax is really rare and very hard to find, and even if it's not listed on Discogs, a CD version exists with the same tracklist but it should be rarer than the vinyl...

On March 12th 1997, Joe Summa and Val Black were invited on the NY Live Radio Show (89.1 WNYU) with Mr Mayhem, Sunset & DJ Riz. This show was uploaded in 2016 on Dj Eclipse's Mixcloud... Here is Joe Summa's freestyle and Interview !

Mad Props to Joe Summa and Von Belgrave.
